LMBC celebrates 25 years

LMBC was founded in 1996 which makes us 25 years old! To commemorate this occasion, we have been working to create some apparel. Watch for t-shirts, hats, socks and jerseys around town. In addition, we will host a race on the first weekend of October (Oct. 2), called the River Trail Riot. You can find more information here:  https://www.lawrencemountainbikeclub.org/river-trail-riot/

The foundation story as I understand it is that some people were getting together to ride the Lawrence River Trail and riding pub crawls when they got the idea to form an official group to ride and maintain the river trail and the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club was born. We talk about the first official ride was a New Years day ride, which is why we make a big deal out of that ride.

These original members were:
Curtis Martell
 Chad Lamer
 Mike fine
 Greg Schrader
 Neil Taylor

The club membership has grown over the years and the records I have go back to 2007 where we have generally had 80-180 members. Over the past 25 years, our club has been lead by a team of elected officials and board members.

Past Presidents:
Dan Brobst
Greg Schroeder
Lee Merrill
Gerard Arantowicz
Neil Taylor
Jeff Arnaud
Justin Eddings
Michael Mathews
Rod Hernandez
Sam Jones

The Lawrence Mountain Bike Club exists because of all of the great members who have come together to ride, laugh, take care of the trails and build this great community of mountain bikers here in North East Kansas where most folks think mountain biking doesn’t exist.

Here’s to another 25 years!

Group gathers for a recent Friday Night Ride. The FNR happens every Friday night at 6:30 if the trails are open.
